Colors Impact on Emails

Monday, March 13th, 2006

On the same rant of the color in email, EA did a good job this time whether they knew it or not. Most the emails have a black background that they send, but with the release of the new game BLACK, the color black reinforces the game title.

I would love to see some more impact on colors in email testing. Everyone focuses on Subject lines, images, size, time of day, frequency etc (which are all important)… but what about colors. They do have a real impact on the experience that people place with a message. White (fast and clean), Red (Important), Green (New or Expensive), Black (exclusive).

Let me know what colors work well for you this next month. Look one more time at the inbox and see if Colors happen to change your penchant for a click.

EA Should Know that Video Is NOT for Email

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

I have to throw this one into the Worst of Email category today as I can never understand why people try to place video in an email. It just does not work. In recent tests only 4 out of 45 email clients will play or at least render the image. If you MUST add a video to your email try either a rotating image or a static image to get me to see it. (Which of course you can in a web browser after the jump).

Remember that we ALL LOVE video now that we have the bandwidth, but there are still some contraints.
