Funniest Email of 2008

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

After the last week of blog posts looking forward into 2009, I thought it would be relevant for the first blog post of 2009 to be about the Best of ‘08. The key to email marketing is personalization and ultra-relevance. This email was to my parents, sisters, and brother-in-laws about a funny video on Saturday Night Live called “Jizz in My Pants.” My Mom’s response was so funny I had to forward it to all eROI employees. If you know my Mom, it’s even funnier.

eROI NYC office: Day #374

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Our fearless NYC Director, Chris Masagatani, has been scouring the streets of NYC for 374 days.  He and his fiance (now wife) moved there Dec 2, 2007.  They moved straight into Hell’s Kitchen and Chris commuted all of 25 blocks to the eROI NYC office in the Flat Iron District of Manhattan where we still operate.  So much change in a year – his wife is one of the top designers at nationally-acclaimed design school Parsons, and Chris is truly coming into his own as an expert online marketer, leading email design and web projects for CBS Sports, CBS Watch magazine, CBS Star Trek store among other key eROI clients like digital publisher Zinio, real estate companies like Shares of New York, The Marketing Directors and dozens more unique and amazing NYC-based clients.

What makes our year anniversary in NYC even better is that Chris has found his voice blogging on our new blog in the eROI blog family.  Check out the phenomenal, unique video mashups, and photos of NYC life on THE REBIRTH OF SLICK >>

Michael Jackson Works for Hasbro? (Not for the faint of heart or tight of lip)

Monday, May 8th, 2006

A buddy of mine sent this to me last week some three syllable Japanese word in the subject line.

I don’t know how in the world this product got past the brainstorming session and into development. Perhaps it seemed innocent enough in theory but even so, the ads have done away with any and all innocence. Everytime I see this spot, I am whisked back in time to the fourth grade, when I worked at Club Bath as a towel boy. The pay was decent but I quit after a particularly sticky situation.

Seriously though, will somebody please smack the folks at Hasbro in the head for allowing this ad to air, or even exist on film? Also, send over a Japanese translator so I can figure out this word: ‘bu…bu…ah, it’s all Greek to me.

P.S. – You think it’s fake? Go here:http://www.hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=browse&product_id=17359#

P.P.S. – Frequent pumping reguired.

What would you do if you saw another kid in trouble?

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

If you have young kids, this video will be frightening. What is it about the human psyche that most of us don’t step up to help a distressing situation in a public area. In this case, it’s a stranger forcibly kidnapping a 7 year old girl. In suburban New York, this male adult TV actor and girl actress went through dozens of “kidnapping” scenarios and no one helped until finally a couple young men came to her rescue. Hopefully, we can learn to be a little bit more aware and willing to step up to come to someone else’s aid. It’s easy to say, but what would you do? Honestly.

Disturbingly Funny Ice Skating “Plushenko” Video

Tuesday, April 4th, 2006

I got this email from a co-worker: “hmm….wishful thinking? watch out Chippendales! 2nd half is way better than the first half. http://www.mojoflix.com/Video/Evgeni-Plushenko-Sex-Bomb.html

Plushenko flexes his muscle on the ice to the throwback tunes of “Sex Bomb.” What’s he going to do in his next performance? Take a walk down the cat-walk?

Monkeys Always Make It Viral

Friday, March 17th, 2006

Not sure why but even 4 years ago with the Trunk Monkey spots we seem to love when monkeys do the unexpected. Maybe it is because we were all monkeys at one point in time. And some of us her might still be monkeys.

Will The Brokeback Videos Never End?

Thursday, March 16th, 2006

I have seen so many Brokeback Mountain paradies now. Will it ever end?

EA Should Know that Video Is NOT for Email

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

I have to throw this one into the Worst of Email category today as I can never understand why people try to place video in an email. It just does not work. In recent tests only 4 out of 45 email clients will play or at least render the image. If you MUST add a video to your email try either a rotating image or a static image to get me to see it. (Which of course you can in a web browser after the jump).

Remember that we ALL LOVE video now that we have the bandwidth, but there are still some contraints.

Why I Love Itunes Video

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

Aside from the New Music Tuesday emails that are clear, concise and make me want to explore some music that I love more, they are bundling the video offerings as well. This edition is a great example of the new cross channel marketing that we are seeing with the network TV stations adding video content to the library.

Towards the end of this below email you will see the FREE download for the new Pilot of Conviction. I don’t watch alot of new TV now that I have had TIVO for a few years, but with my new video iPod, I can take content on the go. I always thought “Why would I ever watch a video on a screen that small?” but this last week as I was boarding a flight to NYC (Red Eye) I looked at my iPod and noticed that I had added that new Pilot episode. So I sat back and watched it. To get to the end of the story quick, I LOVED It. I was sucked in by this little machine and can’t wait for more video content on my iPod. It might even make me want to pay for TV shows on this device. If you have not already downloaded your copy from Itunes, get over there today. You will not be disapointed.

Broke Mac Mountain

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

This short video has been out there for nearly a month, but I’m finally getting around to blogging about it. Mighty McPilgrim.com parodies the common issue that a lot of Mac users have. If you are squirmy watching “Brokeback Mountain,” you probably don’t want to watch this video:

Wear Short Shorts Office Olympics Video

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

We really wanted to get into the holiday spirit and something went terribly wrong. Somehow, I ended up in short shorts looking like John McEnroe in the 70’s without the hair. This video is troubling but strangely amusing – check it out if you get a chance:

Don’t forget to vote on what Office Olympics event we should do next. The “Drunken Tricycle Race” seems to be leading the pack, but don’t let that influence your decision. Check out the full site (if time allows).

Here is what some people have voted for as the next Office Olympics event:

  • Paper Snowshoeing (insert foot into plastic band)
  • Office capture the flag!
  • office dodgeball
  • office tetherball
  • office kickball

Come up with your own event. Tell us what you want.
